Helping you get the most out of your Storybook Hut membership is important to me. These quick tips and strategies can help you use this resource to your best advantage at different times and in different places.
1. Safely let your child browse and listen to our collection of quality children's literature.
Our video storybooks are NOT animated. They are designed to be as close to having a physical book in your hand as possible. Each page is read aloud with the static image of the storybook and the text visible. This minimizes the harmful affects to the developing brain of "screen time" that has become more concerning in recent years.
While the story is being read, your child can focus on the picture or follow along with the words, the same way they would if they were snuggled up next to you on the couch. This allows their brain to process what they are seeing without all the moving parts that are so common in most videos and online games.
2. Use our video library as your own library so that you can 'grab a book' and read to your little person at any time and in any place.
When narrating these storybooks, I made a point to leave a little extra time on each page for two reasons. As a teacher who helps children develop their reading skills, I know how children like to take time to examine the images, so I wanted to be sure not to rush them.
Secondly, I wanted to provide grown-ups with a reliable and portable resource that they could use to read aloud to their own children. Simply mute the volume on the video and YOU can read aloud to your children, grandchildren, or students. You should have plenty of time to read each slide in the time allotted. If necessary, you can pause the video and restart when you are ready to move on.
3. Make reading practice fun!
Children can listen to the story once and then go back and practice their own reading skills by turning the volume down very low or putting it on mute so that they can read the story independently.
REPETITION IS THE KEY TO LEARNING!
As children read along with the books in Storybook Hut, they will not only develop their pronunciation and reading skills, but also their ability to read with expression and follow punctuation rules to become better readers.
4. Use Storybook Hut videos in classroom and group settings.
Many of our videos are excellent resources for use in a classroom setting. We have a collection of character-building stories that will charm and entertain your public school students as well as Christian-themed and Bible stories for use in Sunday school.
Storybook Hut videos are also ideal as a 'calm down' activity as you wind down at a birthday party, sleepover, or game night.
Have fun, and remember...
Reading is always a good idea!
